Decorating a four poster bed can be a fun and exciting project. The first thing to look at however is the height of your four poster bed in relation to the ceiling in your home. If the ceiling is low, almost touching the top of your poster bed than you may have to scale back on the thickness of decorating you can do. White sheers or a thin fabric draped across the longer sides of the bed and around the front of the bed would be a nice touch. You can also pick from a variety of patterns and designs from most major craft stores that sell material by the yard. These are perfect for achieving a unique and tasteful look.

Another thought is to surround your four poster bed in sheer mosquito netting. (Not really for mosquitos but just described in this way.) These can be semi-transparent or solid and the idea would be to use them to enclose the four poster bed by hanging them in such a way that you create privacy. The other thought would be to tie them back on the legs creating an elegant look.

Heavier sheers and fabric can also be added to your poster bed and this is easier to do with taller ceilings so that you’ll have more room to work in hanging them. These several layer systems can be quite impressive and will add something extra to your bedroom decor.

So now you can own a platform bed and use your mattress/boxspring or down the road change it to work for only a mattress. It’s totally up to you.

Another form of using mattress/boxspring combos with platform bed frames are wood beds.
