Extra Long Beds

Extra Long Beds

Long ago the majority of the bedding industry focused on standard sizes such as twin, full, queen and king sizes. It took a while for many to figure out that there was a market for consumers who needed longer beds than twin or full but less wide than a queen or king bed. So were born XL beds or also known as extra long beds. Available today in Twin XL (39″x80″) or Full XL (54″x80″) these bed sizes give you all the comforts of a longer bed but at the size time in less wide sizes so as to fit into most bedrooms. Now the preferred choice of many teenagers and young adults who are ready for adult size beds but need less width in the bed to fit into their rooms or dorms. Different Sleep Positions

Different Sleep Positions

I came across a website http://twentyfourcarat.net/ that has an interesting write up about the various sleep positions one can achieve. Each position says something unique about you and so it peaked my interest. ;)

I am apparently a “Yearner” which if you read the article will tell you what being a side sleeper says about you. :) I’m sure each one of us can say some of these things are true or perhaps not. But a fun read none the less. Check it out and see what kind of sleeper you are!

I was sitting around today thinking about the full size mattress my wife and I are getting ready to take out of our house. We ended up moving our rooms around and the spare room has become a full time bedroom for one of our kids. We’re left however with this extra full mattress. It’s in pretty good shape and is only a couple years old. So I sat around trying to come up with some ways to keep it out of a landfill. Here’s what I have so far.

1.) Donate the mattress to a Goodwill or Salvation Army. I know in years past this was the thing to do. As long as it’s clean I think this is a great idea. It was in a guest room so hardly got any use at all.

2.) Donate our mattress to family. Maybe we’ve got someone in our immediate family who could use it. Heck, maybe even distant cousins could qualify for our mattress. ;)

3.) Contact a furniture donation or church donation service to see if they could use it. There are many shelters out there for families that are struggling and thought maybe they could use it on their beds.

If you’re in the same pickle as us with what to do with your lightly used mattress from a guest room, consider any of the above possibilities. Of course more suggestions are welcome… :)

The Bed of Nails

March 2, 2009

You’ve probably seen martial artists who lay down over a bed of nails, hold a cinder block above them and then someone hits the cinder block with a mallet. The martial artist on the bed of nails gets up, dusts himself off and everyone is like wow! This is a cool video that was made in a physics class. The instructor has his very own bed of nails that he puts down and proceeds to show what happens. Not sure I could ever try to sleep on a bed of nails, I sure wouldn’t do this! Check it out.
