Wood Beds
October 21, 2008
The beauty of real wood beds can be found in woods like oak, ash and hickory. These woods have a distinct grain pattern that shows well through many different types of stains. Owning real wood furniture gives a more natural feel to any bedroom decor and adds warmth and style.
Wood beds are often made with slat support systems. These systems will include a banded roll or wood slats that make up the platform of the bed. These provide great support for most major brands of mattress. Slats can be made from spruce, poplar or any number of other woods. Slats help to promote air flow beneath the mattress keeping your mattress fresh.
If you’re considering adding a new bed to your bedroom, consider adding a solid wood bed. They’ll bring you years of use and are built to last.

Sore in the morning? Your mattress may be the culprit.
October 15, 2008
Waking up in the morning and rolling out of bed should be a pretty easy task. What if though when you wake up you’re finding that a sore back, muscle pain or soreness in your joints has occurred? You’re healthy, you exercise and eat right but every morning it’s the same routine. Soreness and discomfort when you should be feeling rested and refreshed. There may be a culprit responsible. Your mattress.
As mattresses age, the support and comfort they provided begins to diminish. The materials inside mattresses do break down over long periods of time from daily use. This is to be expected. Thankfully this usually takes place over a 15-20 year period but towards the end of the life for your mattress, you’ll find it just isn’t providing the same support it used to. This may be the reason for a sore back in the morning or a stiffness in your muscles that does go away within an hour of waking up. Your body is trying to tell you something.
When it’s time to buy a new mattress, you’ll know. Shopping for a new mattress can be easy if you consider what you’re looking for before heading out to find that new mattress. There are a variety of models available ranging from innerspring, memory foam to latex. If you’ve always been used to innerspring mattresses I would encourage you to go out and try some of designs. You never know, you may find exactly what you’re looking for. Nothing beats waking up refreshed and rested and if your old mattress just isn’t cutting it then it’s time for a change.

Using boxsprings on platform bed frames?
October 11, 2008

Platform Bed
The title of this article says it all. Using boxsprings on platform bed frames? Usually this is not a combination that happens as platform bed frames are designed for just a mattress. However there are lots of people that are out there looking for a new bed for their existing mattress/boxspring set that they purchased maybe five, ten years ago that is still in great shape and they want a platform bed. That’s pretty easy to understand.
This is do-able in that some platform beds are made to work with both. Take for example Amisco platform bed frames. These metal beds are available with what is called a versatile mattress support system. Explained this system features solid panels and steel crossbars as well as three sets of different height fittings in the legs of the bed that let you choose where you want to set the platform of your bed up on. The lowest setting is for a mattress/boxspring. The highest is for just a mattress. So now you can own a platform bed and use your mattress/boxspring or down the road change it to work for only a mattress. It’s totally up to you.
Another form of using mattress/boxspring combos with platform bed frames are wood beds. One such manufacturer by the name of Ramblin Wood in Albuquerque, NM offers their wood platform bed frames with what is called the “boxspring upgrade option”. This will turn your platform bed into a bed capable of handling a mattress/boxspring combo for a small additional fee. Basically it’s creating the bed with taller legs and lowering the platform of the bed down closer to the ground to help make room for the boxspring unit.
You can follow this link to platform bed frames for more information about platform beds that will accomodate mattress/boxspring combos.
